What Search Engines Do

  • They search the Internet for key words.
  • They keep an index of the words they find, and where they find them. Allowing users to look for words or combinations of words found in that index.
  • Some search engines produce word results in clusters about one subject.
  • Results show up differently depending on the search engine method used to find them.
  • Search engine methods can produce results based on the popularity of search words, the relevance to search words entered others by the number of times the words appear, etc.
